Before everyone started jumping on the band wagon, Mark Grusane and Mike Cole of Mr. Peabody records were pioneers in the art and science of recovering rare, underground boogie and disco music. They built their store on the South Side into one of the nation's most presitigous emporium's of rare vinyl.
These days, you'll find a lot of European and "electronic" labels following their lead and putting out their own disco/boogie compilations from DJs who have gotten on the trend in the last couple years. But make no mistake, they've been doing for well over a decade; they own the store, and everyone else is just shopping in it. No one has the record collection or the knowledge of the music that they do.
Recently, they put up a "Lost
Mixtapes" page featuring some of their old, classic mixes. It's hours
and hours of sublime listening pleasure, and they are adding more every week.
Good for Party has had the privelege
of throwing a few exclusive parties with Mark and Mike, and they are the most
tasteful selectors in the city. If your interested in strictly buttery, sexy
music that you won't hear anywhere else, you've got to check these mixes out.
